Me recuesto.

For years I searched for a love that would last. I looked for it in people, in relationships, in the eyes of someone who could make me feel like enough. And every time I thought I had found it, I noticed the same thing: it depended on something outside of me. It depended on what the other person did, on their staying, on their not changing their mind. My peace rose and fell with every message, every gesture, every silence. I loved, yes, but I loved with clenched hands, always with the quiet fear of losing it.

One day, tired of that back-and-forth, I asked myself a different question. Not “how do I keep this love from leaving?” but “what if there were a love inside me that depended on nothing?” A love I didn’t have to earn, or guard, or hold up by force. A love that was there even when I’m alone, even when no one gives it back to me.

That is the third Attitude of Ascension: Love. And I don’t mean romantic love, or the kind that rises and falls with what someone else does. I mean unconditional love, which is not a passing emotion but something that simply is. Most of us grew up believing love is something you obtain, something you deserve, something you can lose. But this love isn’t manufactured. You don’t have to create it or force it. It is already inside you. It always was. The practice doesn’t produce it; it only dissolves, little by little, everything that was covering it: the fear, the judgment, the old wounds, the idea that you are not enough.

So when I want to remember it, I don’t go looking for it outside. I lie down. I gently close my eyes. And I watch my thoughts without fighting them, letting them rise and fall like waves that reach the shore and withdraw. I don’t try to empty my mind or force silence. I just watch. And beneath the noise, as the mind begins to settle, I find it again: that love is still there. Intact. It had never gone anywhere. I had simply stopped looking at it.

The love you look for outside is only a reflection of the one already living within you. You don’t have to become worthy of it. You don’t have to fix yourself first, or wait until you’re a better person. You only have to close your eyes, be still for a moment, and remember what never stopped being there. Because the love you were searching for so hard was never at the end of the road. From the very beginning, it was the road itself.
