Day 7: Just Rest and Watch

I want you to try something right now, just for sixty seconds. Find a place where you can be comfortable — lying on your bed, on a couch, or even on the floor with a pillow. You can sit in a chair if you prefer, but do not make yourself stiff. Now, keep your eyes open. Soften your gaze. Do not focus on anything in particular. Just let your eyes rest. Take a deep breath in and out. Now, simply observe the thoughts in your mind. Do not try to judge them or push them away. Just watch them, like waves at the beach — slowly they come, and slowly they go. Do not use any technique. Do not repeat any special words. Do not try to achieve anything at all. Just rest for one minute with your eyes open, watching whatever arises. Your mind will probably scream at you — it will tell you this is useless, that you are wasting time. That screaming is the machine, the conditioning. You do not need to fight it. Just watch it, like a wave. It will pass. One minute. With your eyes open, you are not escaping the world — you are building a shield within it.
