Day 17: Watch a Baby

Spend five minutes watching a baby, and you will see something remarkable. The baby does not regret what happened yesterday. The baby does not worry about what will happen tomorrow. The baby does not judge its own body as too fat or too thin or too anything. When the baby is sad, it cries, fully and completely. When the baby is happy, it laughs, without holding back. And then, a moment later, it moves on to whatever is next, carrying nothing forward. That is innocence. That is freedom. And here is the thing you may have forgotten: you were that baby. You were born knowing how to watch thoughts without clinging to them. Then someone taught you to regret, to worry, to judge, to hold on. This practice of lying down with your eyes open and watching your thoughts like waves is not about becoming something new. It is about returning to who you never stopped being.
