The first root belief is the one that whispers constantly in your ear: something is wrong with your life. I should have a better job by now. I should be married, or not married, or have children, or have a different body. I should not have made that mistake ten years ago. I am behind, I am failing, I am not measuring up. This voice is the root of comparison, regret, and the endless feeling of never enough. When you lie down with your eyes open and watch your thoughts like waves, you will see this voice clearly. It is just a wave — a familiar one, but still just a wave. You do not have to believe it. You just watch it rise and fall. And as you watch, you may notice something liberating: nothing is wrong with your life except the story that something is wrong.
