Day 1: This Is Not Meditation

I tried meditation for years, and it never worked for me. My mind never stopped, no matter how hard I tried to empty it or how straight I made my back.
Then someone told me something that changed everything: "This is not meditation." That simple statement freed me from trying to achieve a blank mind or sitting stiffly with my legs in a lotus position.
What I learned instead does not ask you to fight your thoughts or to silence anything. You can do it lying down in your bed, or curled up on a couch, or sitting in any chair that feels comfortable. You can do it with your eyes open or closed.
Just watch your thoughts, like waves at the beach — they come, and slowly they go. You are not trying to stop them. You are just noticing. That is the whole practice. No effort. No struggle.
What if you stopped trying to empty your mind and just started watching? The door is always open to you.
